Dr. Jonathan Chism is an Associate Professor of History at the University of Houston-Downtown and a fellow with the Center for Critical Race Studies. A dedicated educator, community advocate, and grassroots organizer, he has spent years serving marginalized communities through initiatives such as the Path to Freedom Prison and Reentry Organization and partnerships with the Urban Enrichment Institute.
Jonathan and his wife, Dr. Courtney Miller-Chism, a hematologist oncologist at Baylor College of Medicine, are proud parents to Jonathan Jr. (Jay) and Jasmine. Jay was diagnosed with autism at age 2 and continues to inspire their family with his love of music, his warm spirit, and the progress he’s made using his communication device. Jonathan is also co-founder of the Autism Dads Social Club in Houston, a space built to support and empower fathers navigating the autism journey.
